Employee Turnover Calculator
Calculate your employee turnover rate from separations and headcount at the start and end of a period.
How the calculation works
Average your headcount at the start and end of the period to get a representative employee count, then divide the number of people who left by that average and multiply by 100. Using an average rather than just the starting or ending headcount smooths out growth or shrinkage during the period.
Formula
Turnover Rate (%) = (Separations ÷ Average Headcount) × 100, where Average Headcount = (Employees at Start + Employees at End) ÷ 2.
Examples
8 separations, 95 → 105 employees
8.00% turnover rate (average headcount 100)
15 separations, 180 → 220 employees
7.50% turnover rate (average headcount 200)
