Overtime Calculator
Calculate overtime pay from regular hours, overtime hours, hourly rate, and overtime multiplier.
How the calculation works
Under the FLSA, most hourly employees earn 1.5× their regular rate for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek. Some states and employers pay double time for hours beyond a higher threshold or on specific days. Regular pay is your regular hours times your hourly rate; overtime pay is your overtime hours times your hourly rate times the overtime multiplier. Add the two together for total gross pay before taxes.
Formula
Overtime Pay = Overtime Hours × Hourly Rate × Overtime Multiplier. Total Pay = Regular Pay + Overtime Pay.
Examples
40 regular + 5 overtime hours at $25/hr, 1.5×
$1,187.50 total pay ($1,000 regular + $187.50 overtime)
35 regular + 10 overtime hours at $32/hr, 2.0×
$1,760.00 total pay ($1,120 regular + $640 overtime)
