How the calculation works

Subtracts the standard deduction from gross income to get taxable income, then applies the 2026 federal marginal tax brackets progressively: each bracket's rate only applies to the slice of income within that bracket, not your whole income. This is a federal-only estimate using the standard deduction; it doesn't include state tax, credits, itemized deductions, or other income adjustments.

Formula

Taxable Income = Gross Income − Standard Deduction. Federal Tax = sum of each bracket's marginal rate applied to the portion of taxable income within that bracket.
